What Else WIll You Be Doing This Summer?

My summer won't began with a kayak trip down the Willimantic (with Mr. Welden).  We did it last year, so this makes it an official tradition.  I also will be rowing crew down in Middletown -- those long boats with eight people rowing at once?  Wonderful exercise, and it's nice to be on the water on a summer evening.  And I'll be running and biking, as well.

Speaking of biking -- I hope you'll all be watching the Tour de France!  There's great scenery of the French countryside, and great athletic drama as well.  Check it out.

I'll be working on my yard and garden, which I enjoy doing.  I'll be watching the Red Sox out on my screen porch, and at Fenway one more time, and I may get out to Beehive Field in New Britain for a little minor league baseball.

On the cultural side, there's always the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival.  I may be there.  Feel free to come up and say "hi!".  Highlight of the summer will be July 11th, with U. S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey.  And you get music, besides.  It's a lovely, peaceful, cultured way to spend an evening.
Donald Hall on the 18th is not a bad bet either.

And, in August, I'll be up at the Cape for a week.  Eastham, mostly.

What will you all be up to?

  1. I'm currently in Ohio for a family reunion. My uncles own a huge dairy farm here that's over 100 years old. We drove over 10 hours to get here. It was a boring drive but a great chance to do summer reading!

  2. Hello, Hello, Hello everybody!

Right now I am fortunate enough to be with my best friend from Bologna, Italy! She is staying with us for a couple of weeks because two summers ago my sister and I traveled around Europe with her and her family. We have been busy, busy, busy with lots of day trips to Boston and NYC. Then, at the end of July, my family and all of my cousins on my mom's side of the family are taking a cruise to Bermuda for a week. (My grandparents gave us this cruise as our big family Christmas present this year!) I am so excited for the cruise. For the remainder of the summer, I have to find time to read these books, manage to create ten art pieces for A.P. Art, and work on a special project I have up my sleeve... This summer will hopefully be very productive. I hope everyone else is enjoying their summer, as well!

  3. I'm working a lot at Crandalls pond, lifeguarding. As well as playing some hockey, we actually played in the CT Nutmeg Games this past weekend, didn't do so well but we played some very good teams from all over the northeast. Also playing a lot of tennis and golf, and some rock climbing. Spent a week im Maine in early July and I'll be going to Naples, Florida in late August, right before school starts.

Hope everyone else is having fun

  4. Hey everyone!

This summer has already been really busy. I have been lifeguarding at Ellington Ridge Country Club. I really enjoy working there. In the beginning of the summer my family and I went on a cruise to the Southern Carribean. It was amazing, and the water was extremely blue. Now I have been running with my team to start our training for the season coming up this fall. The Olympics have started, so I have been watching that whenver I can. I hope everyone is having a great summer!

  5. My summer has been pretty great. I've been painting basically every day, just for fun. And in between work, Warped Tour, Connecticon, taking AP biology notes, going on spontaneous trips out of town, hiking, and being with friends, I still manage to find the time to save the world before bedtime.

I hope everyone's having a safe and fun summer!

  6. Hey Guys!

It's safe to say I've had a very busy summer so far! Some of you may know that I work at Olympia Sports in Tolland, but I actually just got a second job at Paul's Pizza in Vernon. Work, work, work! If I'm not at one job, I'm at the other! Also, I've spent lots of time with the THS cheerleading squad! (: We actually just got home from cheer camp, and as a team we won many awards! First Place in the dance routine, second place in the cheer routine, and the overall leadership award! We were also invited to cheerlead at the Capitol One Bowl this New Years! So overall, we did fantastic! Go Eagles!

It's so great to see how everyone's summer has been, keep up the fun & blogging! Tootles!

  7. Hey everyone!

I've been lifeguarding at Crandalls and Star Hill and working as a counselor at Crandalls too. I've had an extremely busy summer between baseball games, football training, college tours, and work. I just got back from Candlewood Lake and a cruise to Bermuda so I finally had some time to relax! Hope everyone is having a good summer, it's going by wayyyy to fast.

  8. My summer has been busy! I spent time in Michigan, as I always do each year, visiting family and friends. That was great, I got to catch up with a lot of people I haven't seen in a really long time. The day after I got home from Michigan, I repacked my suitcase and flew to Honduras alone, for a medical missionary trip. This experience was without a doubt the highlight of my summer, and it really changed me as a person. But I could go on and on about Honduras forever, I love talking about my trip! :) Aside from those adventures, I've been working my part time job, volunteering at Woodlake Nursing Home in Tolland, and also volunteering at Rockville General Hospital. Anddd I guess that's pretty much it!

  10. Hey everybody!

So the first half of my summer was pretty much consumed by the summer play; learning lines and being in the preformances! I've also been to Boston and New York a few times and seen a Broadway show, and to New Hampshire once. But a highlight had to be going to New Jersey with a group of friends to surprise a friend for a belated birthday! We stayed in her beach house with her, and it was nice to spend some time before she left for college. Now i'm enjoying some down time before volleyball starts and my family and I squeeze in a trip to Canada to Niagra Falls. I hope everyone's enjoyed their summer!

  11. Hola chicos!
My summer conisisted of a 2 week family vacation with my family (and extended family unfortunately), volunteering at a summer camp, and traveling to Peru to build a greenhouse and being a tourist with other highschool people from all over. <--- best experience ever. Now I'm job hunting, Tori, I am jealous of you having two jobs because I am in desperate need of cash. Yay summer! Too bad its almost over. Enjoy it while you can!!!

  12. Well summer is now firmly in the past tense but I had a good time. I visited a stupid number of schools and liked almost all of them. My Mom is an English professor so I got to meet all of her English professor buddies. All of them were sympathetic about reading Far From the Madding Crowd. I even went to Colorado for a week to look at schools, which I really enjoyed. Other than that I went to NYC and bought some fake bling, and worked a lot. So yeah, that was my summer.

  13. I spent some time in Rhode Island, my grandmother owns a cottage in Westerly. I also went to Providence to check out RISD. I liked the school a lot, and I've always liked Providence. My girlfriend and I went to see MGMT (one of our favorite bands) perform in Pennsylvania, and even though the drive was long and it was pouring rain through the opening band's show, it was worth it. I've been working on my summer art project for AP, which has been taking a lot of time but I've produced some pieces I'm really proud of.

  14. summer is almost over :( did anyone else feel like this was the shortest summer to date?! I'm almost hoping for another hurricane just so we can have one more week of summer! This summer I was very busy, I got my very first job, at Skungamaug Golf Course, which is great because, well making money is always great. I work all the time though because there isn't many workers. I also went on vacation to Hampton Beach for a week. My family and I rend a condo right on the beach so that was nice and relaxing. I also found the time to visit a few colleges and also go off to running camp for a week. Its been pretty hectic these past couple of weeks which is why I am blogging so late! I didn't have access to a computer much over the past weeks so I have been writing down my ideas for blogs and writing them all now! I hope everyone enjoys their last couple of days before senior year!!

  15. summer is always too short but it seems to be getting shorter every year!! I really have no idea where the time went this summer, if you can't tell by me just typing this now the night before school! I guess my time went into working A LOT at burger king in the travel center of america off exit 71. I really love it haha my coworkers are like my second family. I work with a lot of friends i already knew like my neighbor, or basically my older sister (the assistant manager) and others from Tolland and I've made so many amazing friends there. Also I went to conditioning workouts and captains practices for soccer and tried to spend some time practicing and working out on my own to get ready for this season...I'm so excited!!! haha For a week I went to Virginia Beach for the second year in a row and just like last year it was an amazing vacation and I had a great time with my best friend, who I brought along because my brothers (Kevin and Matt) were working and couldn't stay for the whole week, and we spent the majority of the trip with a family from Toronto that we met at the hotel last year. Umm I guess in between that I hung out with my friends and relatives and did as much as I could fit like usual! haha I hope everyone had an amazing summer :) I'm so sad it's over but I have to admit I'm getting excited for school a little haha See everyone tomorrow!!
